The Town of Wallace is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill a position for Wastewater Plant Operator I (12 pm to 12 am shift including weekends). This position will serve as plant operator at the Town’s 5.42 million gallon per day wastewater treatment plant.  Job tasks include (but are not limited to): inspect/adjust/repair wastewater treatment facilities and equipment, collect samples, perform chemical analysis of wastewater and various tests as needed. This position requires the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds, completion of a standard high school diploma or GED and a valid NC Driver’s License.  Possession of a Grade I NC Wastewater Certification is required within six months of employment. Meter Technician

The Town of Wallace is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill a position for Meter Technician. This position is responsible for responding to work orders, servicing, reading and maintaining and installing new meters and replacing non-working meters. Job tasks include (but are not limited to): water and sewer taps and service connections; laying and replacing pipe; reading, installing, and testing water meters and meter yokes; operating heavy equipment; meters and meter boxes, valves, clamps and related apparatus; landscape maintenance of sewer pumps, wells and water tank sites.

Position requires completion of a high school diploma or GED and a valid NC Driver’s License. Senior Utility Maintenance Mechanic/Backflow ORC

The Town of Wallace is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill a position for Senior Utility Maintenance Mechanic/Backflow ORC. This position performs responsible semi-skilled and supervisory work in the installation, replacement and repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines and associated infrastructure. Job tasks include (but are not limited to): directing the daily activities of the Water Department, use of heavy equipment including backhoe, front end loader, dump truck, tampers, pipe threaders, air compressors and boring machines. Manages unstopping of sewer lines, repairing water lines, making video inspection of sewer lines, locating lines and prepares reports of work activities. Position requires completion of a high school diploma or GED and a valid NC Driver’s License. Zoning and Code Compliance Officer

The Town of Wallace is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Zoning and Code Compliance Officer, performing a variety of duties in the interpretation and enforcement of the Town’s Code of Ordinances, UDO (Unified Development Ordinance) and related rules and regulations under the supervision of the Planning Director. Job duties include, but are not limited to: ensures compliance with applicable regulations, responds to inquires or complaints regarding compliance, collects information and formulates response, responsible for public notices as required by ordinance or statute, communicates with involved parties, reports to advisory boards as needed, reviews, develops and recommends procedures, schedules, code changes to make compliance more effective and efficient, provides information to the public, prepares reports on cases, inquires and complaints.

Position requires completion of a high school diploma or GED, valid NC Driver’s License and experience in local government planning, zoning or code enforcement. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Possession of or ability to obtain North Carolina CZO (Certified Zoning Official) certificate a plus. This is currently a one-year grant funded position, likely to become full-time permanent. Police Officer and Police Officer Cadets

Cadets will be hired prior to attending Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and paid throughout. Upon completion of BLET, Cadets will receive a salary increase and begin the probationary period of their career as a sworn law enforcement officer. Upon completion of the six-month probationary period, the officer will receive another salary increase.

Requirements for Police Officer Cadets must: be at least 21 years of age, a US citizen, possess a NC driver’s license, a high school diploma or equivalent and be of good moral character.
